22 May 2020Fancy a bank holiday lockdown mocktail?

To help everyone enjoy a safe bank holiday in lockdown, we’ve got a delicious non-alcoholic tipple for you to try.

If you still have essential travel responsibilities, or you're having a weekend off the booze, it doesn’t mean you have to be left out of the  socially distancing party spirit.

So, why not try this Elderflower Spritzer that we can safely say (from experience) tastes great.

Joanne Wehrle, South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership (SYSRP) manager, said: “This is a really easy to make, refreshing drink that is perfect for stay-at-home parties or barbecues.

“All we want is for everyone to enjoy themselves and have a good time but sadly, some people still make the decision to drink and drive.

“Every year, drunk drivers are responsible for thousands of deaths and injuries on the UK’s roads. Even a small amount of alcohol will affect your ability to drive.

“The best way to remain safe is to not drink any alcohol if you’re driving.”

SYSRP is working alongside South Yorkshire Police to support a 'New Normal Same Dangers' road safety campaign.

50ml of elderflower cordial

3 lemon wedges

Half a teaspoon of brown sugar

Soda water

Mint to garnish

Squeeze the lemon juice and mix with the crushed brown sugar. Add the elderflower cordial and shake using a cocktail mixer. Top with soda water and add ice. Stir again and serve over ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint (and lemon wedge if preferred).

Enjoy and stay safe!
