SAFE LOADING - WHO IS RESPONSIBLE?

Here at Safer Roads we run our own Safer Driving at Work training sessions to help employers manage the risk to staff on the road.

We also work in partnership with South Yorkshire Police's traffic team who regularly carry out education and enforcement activities around the issue of safe loads.

Driving for Better Business is a government-backed National Highways programme and the focus for January is on loading issues.

For their first podcast of 2022, Nina Day from the HSE joined the DFBB team. Nina has worked for the HSE for 21 years, is a chartered mechanical engineer and a dangerous goods safety advisor specialising in road and workplace transport.

A spokesman for DFBB said: "Everyone in the transport chain has a role to play in ensuring that commercial vehicles are safely loaded and that an adequate risk assessment is in place.

"Failure to do so can have catastrophic results. This month, the 'Let's Talk Fleet Risk' podcast welcomes Nina Day from the Health and Safety Executive to share her expertise and advice on load security.

"Some of the stories are eye opening - and you may be surprised at where the responsibility for safe loading lies."
