BE BRIGHT, ENJOY THE LIGHT THIS BONFIRE NIGHT
We all need something to light up our lives at the minute but please don’t get burnt on Bonfire Night.

This year’s November 5 celebrations will be very different than what we are all used to, but families may still be hosting their own displays.

If you are driving or riding this evening (and over the coming days) just be mindful of the potential distraction caused by fireworks.

Keep your eyes on the road and save your viewing for when you’re home and safe.

And if you’re out walking, remember to give the road your full attention when crossing, and wear your reflective gear to stand out.

Here are a couple of other tips:

Animal safety

Protect your pets if they get scared of the fireworks. Never leave them in a car near a firework display as they could injure themselves. Create a quiet space for them at home, where they can hide and feel safe.

If you’re walking your dog, remember they may get spooked by a loud explosion and bolt.

Carrying fireworks

If you’re buying fireworks, ensure you have a spark resistant container with a lid to put them in. Place them securely in the boot, this will remove any temptation for passengers to interfere with them when you are driving.

Remove anything flammable from your vehicle and store it safely in your home.

The law states that you cannot buy more than 50kgs of fireworks. Most insurance companies allow you to transport fireworks, but just check the small print to be certain.

Emergency services

Bonfire Night is a busy time for the emergency services so it’s important to stay safe whatever type of road user you are. Please take extra care so that you don’t contribute to an already demanding period for our key workers.
