A statement from Cllr Mazher Iqbal:
“The Council designs all its cycling infrastructure in accordance with revised Department for Transport guidance. By following these guidelines, we will create an active travel network that will reduce the likelihood of life-endangering road incidents.
“Road Safety is of paramount importance for the City of Sheffield and our residential and business communities. We are striving to achieve a transport network that meets Vision Zero by 2050, meaning that we consider any death or serious injury as one too many, supported by the long-term goal of zero people killed or seriously injured on our roads within the next 28 years.
“This principle has been adopted by the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership, in coalition with our South Yorkshire partners, including South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the constituent Local Authorities. In addition, we continue to work with the Department for Transport on road safety initiatives at specific locations, where treatable, recurring incidents are present.
“Alongside the improvements to the active travel network, we are also proposing a number of enhancements to the current public transport offer, working with the private operators to provide better bus, train and tram services. This support’s our ambitions to create a fully functioning, integrated transport system for our residents and businesses.”
